kubryk said i should post a random drunk rambling entry, so here's to ya :)
ya i just got home from a party, good ol uv vodka got me feelin good. rang in the new year with the conan o brian central time zone special. did it with jarod at a random friends of his, where i ran into some old acquaintances from school and older jobs. i remember sitting in a chair and ramblin deep shit with jarod, y'know, good deep stuff ya only chat about when ur drunk? right now im eating a week old pie that tastes like shit, but ill eat it anyways. hey hey hey hey
surprised i made it home allright, although sadly im getting more efficient at that.
howd yall holidays go? hope they went well, ya better drank one for me...
nah too counter mr. kooby in my drunken fit of rage, here is the 2004 Gruelie's!!! for most killer performance in movies that i saw
Best film
Secret Window
Runner-up: Butterly Effect
Ya, give it to Johnny Depp, he did an awesome performance. This movie probably reminded me too much of Fight Club since I loved it so much so sue me. Depp has some memorable lines 'live a little, make it two'
i dont care who knocks it, but i also liked the butterfly effect very much so. ashton did a tremendous job in a movie that actually had a damn good ending for a change of pace that i didnt see coming. and that counts for both the theatrical and dvd directors cut ending
best action film
Collateral
Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx pull off unseen chemistry of enormous perportions. Even though it gets a bit predictable towards the end, almost all of it is a non-stop thrill-ride as I was on my feet to see what hot water the cabbie and the assassin got their feet into.
best thriller
Secret Window
runner-up: suspect-zero
what can i say i have a newfound respect for johnny depp ever since Pirates of the Carribean. And i havent even seen Finding Neverlan yet.
Best sports film
Wimbledon
Runner-up: Friday Night Lights
I wanted to vote for FNL as my number one pick but something just couldn't let me do it. The film just felt incomplete and lacking a key part of the storyline. Even though Wimbledon is a paint-by-numbers romantic comedy, one hasn't been done circling around tennis before. And I'm a huge tennis fan, so Wimbledon wins by default. Mr 3000 blew it bigtime, save for the last scene where Bernie Mac does his, err, sacrifice, that was brilliantly done and saved the whole film from being a complete disaster in my opinion.
Best comedy: 50 First Dates
Better than Sandler's usual slapstick comedy flicks tho not by much, tho I havent seen Spanglish yet so I can be proven wrong. I would give Along Came Polly the nod here but can't remember if it came out in 2003 or 2004
Best DVD of 2004
Tie - Hard Knocks: The Chris Benoit Story & The Rise and Fall of ECW
Runner-up: Seinfeld TV DVD sets
Yes, two WWE DVDs win the award for me. The Chris Benoit one had an awesome 90 minute feature about his career and a superb amount of DVD Bonus matches included to boot of one of the best wrestlers to ever step into the business today. The Rise and Fall of ECW is an extra awesome 3 hour feature about one of wrestling's most influental companies, and a host of excellent DVD bonus matches, but most of which we already saw on Pioneer's Best of ECW DVD releases a couple year's back. And yes, it's great to see Seinfel finally on DVD, along with a nice amount of extras too. I can give a rat's ass about the Star Wars trilogy, never was a Star Wars geek, so the inevitable original trilogy release wasnt that big of a deal to me.
Didnt live up to the hype
Alien vs Predator
too many cheesy one-liners, too predictable, so many questionable exploits, and as usual, an ending that doesnt set things in stone. i wont be placing any bets for these franchises in the forseeable future
