Work and my first week of school is over. Was kind of rough keeping up both. Well the weekend is just about over, and it has gone fairly well thus far. Friday I went and stayed the night at my sisters on Base. Shawn and I split an 18-pack of longnecks of Bud Light and stayed up watching movies and playing Madden/NCAA 2005 all night. Finally felt good to enjoy my brew of choice after always splitting on Coors Light with my coworkers. I lost all the football games, had one close one where I lost 17-9, but a few other humiliating blowouts. As for flicks we watched The Program, Troy, and Man on Fire. All of which I've never seen before, so you know what that means....
The Program - Program was an interesting take on college football, I love how the football scenes playout, a lot better than some other movies. If Shawn wouldn't of pointed it out I would have never guessed that Omar Epps' girlfriend in this flick is played by a young Halle Barry......BOOBBARRY? Anywho, it focused a little more on defense than other flicks and I think it set up the pedestrian "injure the main defensive guy" spot which Any Given Sunday stole a step out of. The linebacker who got injured here easily reminded me of the one that Lawrence Taylor portrays in AGS. Solid movie, great football sequences but not enough of them. It tackles a lot of controversial issues that still plague College....Programs today, that Necessary Roughness did such a well job at making light of. However there is a bit too much drama going on between games, coupled with a bit of stale acting from the females (sorry Halle was stew a few years away from making it big). I'll go 7.5/10
Troy - I was expecting a disaster after hearing the huge bad rep this flick got. I think people must have been pissed at how cowardly they made that one prince (Orlando Bloom) out to be. The fight scenes are actually well done, save for the last cheap one. Brad Pitt actually did a great job in his role of the badass antihero, Archilles. It's just too bad I knew about that damn horse. Even though that was what I really only knew about the story, so the crummy ending still came as a shock to me. The older prince does a better job in his role, and the only person that I have a problem with for their performance is the King of Troy. He gets annoying fast. 8/10
Man on Fire - Denzel Washington is the man. Can this guy ever give a bad performance? This involving story about how a bodyguard couldn't get the job done to protect a little girl he is attached, and then goes on a mad quest of vengeance to get even with the people who kidnapped the gal he became attached to so dearly. Seemed a little bit long, but barely ever dragged on, nor was I bored with it in a single scene. The plot twists actually caught me off guard for once too, and I'm surprised how nuts Denzel goes towards the end, definitely out of the ordinary. Catch this thriller by any means necessary. 9.5/10
Saturday was the big day for wrestling as it came to town that day.
Didn't have to drive to Fargo, as the WWE finally came back to Grand Forks for first time since June 2001. Show was pretty good, I'm really starting to appreciate these non-televised house shows for what they are. You can tell the wrestlers take it a little bit more easy here than a tv taping and have a little more fun with their pre-match antics. So Steve and I tried to make a little more fun out of it too by trying to come up with some unique witty chants. During the Christian/Regal match I failed at getting guys from the crowd to join in on a "C-L-B, C-L-B to Quit" chant, but Steve did get a few laughs from nearby audience guys when he yelled out at that new Arab wrestler "Go Back to the Kwik-E-Mart." It was great to see Shawn Michaels finally wrestle in person. HHH was suppose to be there but we got just Flair and Batista representing Evolution against Orton/HBK in the main event. Other memorable moments......Shelton Benjamin came to the ring wearing a GFC Central T-Shirt and Beanie. That was the HS I attended, and I saw an article in our local paper how Shelton visited there and its high school wrestlers earlier this week. I caught a funny thing that happened to flair on video in my digicam, too bad my ancient cam doesn't record sound, but is a priceless clip anyways, and I'll have it linked at the bottom for download. Check it out! I'll also give you a url to download a cool Kane moment in his hardcore match with Snitsky. Here are the quick results, I'll have my standard full web page recap later this week sometime:
-Hurricane & Roser defeated La Resistance by pin via spinning Samon Drop/neckbreaker combo )
-Royal Rumble Qualifier- Christian defeated Steven Regal by pinfall via big boot from Tyson Tomko
-IC title- Champ, Shelton Benjamin defeated Maven by pinfall via T-Bone Suplex
-Guest ref Val Venis- Vicoria defeated Molly Holly by pinfall via Widow's Peak
-Muhammad Hussan defeated Chris Jericho by pinfall via roll-up
-Coach came out and interviewed Christy Hemming, Simon Dean came out to give her Diet tips, but Christy ended up beating the crap out of both of them
-Intermission
-Kane defeated Gene Snitsky by pinfall via Chokeslam
-Chris Benoit defeated Edge by submission via Crossface Crippler
-Legends Match- Shawn Michael and Ric Flair went to a no contest after Batista and Randy Orton interfered which immediately set up a tag match between the two teams
-Shawn Michaels & Randy Orton defeated Batista & Ric Flair when HBK pinned Flair via Superkick

Kane/Snitsky - somebody forgot this is a hardcore match!
Flair Flop!
Flair Somethin! (Zipped)
Sunday was allright, spent most the day watching football. Great game between Jets/Steelers, I don't think that kicker will have a job next season, though I have to question the Jet's coach's conservative playcalling on that last drive of the 4th quarter, he could've easily made it a 30 yard field goal instead of a 43 yarder, but decided to eat up a lot of clock instead. Too bad to see Peyton Manning blow it again in the post-season after having one of the best regular seasons for a QB ever in the NFL. He's this generations version of Dan Marino it looks like where he'll have great season, after great season, but still fail to win the big one. To their credit, the Pats played brilliant time management with nice long lengthy drives, and intense defense, holding back what many thought was an unstoppable Colts defense. I actually thought the Vikes had a chance against the Eagles, but the Eagles defense decided to show up today and Moss decided not to play today as he dropped a few too many passes as well. Oh well, both conference games next week are going to be very interesting to watch. Both are going to be toss-ups, but I'm going to pick Steelers and Eagles in the Super Bowl.
That wraps up this longer than usual entry. Sorry to bore all of you to death....latez.
