Last Saturday, our local Gamestop held a Madden 2005 tournament with the winner getting a free copy of Madden 2006. It has been forever since I played Madden and I practiced a couple rounds in the morning and struggled and barely pulled off a win against the computer. I thought I would have been fresh meat against my first opponent. I had no idea how many people would be there so I shilled it to a lot of my friends and got 3 more of them to join me (Steve, Kevin, and Sam). It ended up being a ten man tournament, I was lucky and on the side that had just 4 people. Sam and Kevin both won close nailbiters in the first round, with Kevin actually making quite the comeback with the Redskins to win. However since they had 6 people in their bracket they both had to play this other dude who turned out to be a real pro and beat both of them by a few scores each.
In my first round I was the Saints and went up against a guy who chose the Patriots. I thought this dude would blow me out, but I held my own and barely managed to beat the guy by two points. The next dude was the Eagles and I saw him play and beat Steve in the first round and all he did was bomb it to Owens nonstop, so I decided to be one of the best defenses in the NFL, the Bills. I constantly blitzed him and covered TO myself and limited him to just 4 passes. I forced him to mix it up and he really didnt know what he was doing as he always ended up picking the 'Ask Madden' play a bit and I was able to pull off a few tricks of my own with the weak Bills offense.
I ended up losing by two points because lets face it, the Bills offense isn't that great (except McGahee and Moulds of course, but in 2005 McGahee isn't the starter and not rated as highly). I could have tied it but I missed my two point conversion. I walked away with a measley plastic Madden 06 cup as a consolation. This cup will be my new drinking buddy and will help me conqeur new Madden tournaments online
I love these tournaments and hope to be in some more soon, I got NCAA 06 and definitely plan on getting in on some online tournaments there.
Anyone else get in on these online our local in town gaming tournaments? Got any good stories to share?
