Besides my usual boring life summary I have for you, it will be held off for my next entry as this one is a very special post. I know this is a few days late and I apolagize for that, but for the few of you haven't heard already, former ECW, WCW, and WWF/E star Eddie Guerrero died of heart failure last Sunday in his hotel room. My most sincere condolences to the Guerrero family. It is hard for me to say what many other tributes have already said. Eddie wasn't my die-hard favorite wrestler of all time, but damn if he wasn't high up on the list. Mostly this past year I've been taping RAW and Smackdown as I don't get to watch it as it airs on tv, usually I fast forward through most interviews and lower-card matches until the halfway point....
There were a few exceptions to the stellar wrestlers like Benoit, Angle, and namely Guerrero where I would never fast forward through their matches or interviews. Guerrero excelled at both with spades, especially on the mic for the last few years of his career. A lot of people (myself included) criticized the WWE for letting the Rey/Eddie feud run way too long this year, especially with the craziness with both wrestler's families getting involved towards the end. One thing I got to give Eddie mad (and I mean mad props) is for giving 110% during the whole feud. Almost every match out of that series was superb and left a lasting impression and he gave just as good (if not greater) an effort on the many promos. Eddie was the only guy to play that role, as the silly as the angle got towards the end, he made the angle watchable and somewhat enjoying too considering as long as it ran.
That will always be one of the things I remember about Guerrero, that he gave it has all in the ring and interviews and there are many classic memories I will and always will have of him. He also had one of the best career comebacks in WWE history after a second chance from Vince McMahon. When he came back that time in April 2002 I never thought he would have won the WWE title in under two years from that day, but boy did he prove all of us wrong. I cannot name my favorite promos from him because the list would be too long, as almost all the ones he delivered within the past 4 years were gold! Same with matches, but some that immediately come to mind are nearly all his classics with Rey Mysterio, him winning the belt from Brock at No Way Out 2004, his WM20 win over Kurt Angle, and his WMX7 win over Test. I know there are others too, but it is too hard to think of them now.
The DVD WWE released last year is a damn good documentary on his career, and it includes 10 of his best matches on their to boot. His autobiography is also due out soon, if not already, both would be great things to remember Eddie by. Thanks again Eddie for all the memories, you will be truly missed.
