thanksgiving wii madness

-Hey Yo! This entry is very very late due to holidays, exams, weather and any other random excuse I haven't thought of yet. Damn holiday season means random days off instead of having the usual regular weekends off. Right now I'm in the middle of a seven day stretch of work. Speaking of work, I guess out of the blue I found out they raised our differential from $1 to $2 an hour, which means I now make $11.50/hour. Huzzah! Also at work last week it was my 5th year anniversary there. Can't believe time flew that fast.

-Started holiday work at Gamestop again this season last Tuesday. It went by pretty well, it was at the new Gamestop in town too since all the guys at the store I worked at last two holiday seasons got transferred to the new store in town by our local Wal-Mart. I closed with Joel who has been there both the previous holiday seasons I was there, though I found out his last day is this weekend sometime due to him moving to Boston soon. He is a cool dude and will be missed. Today is employee appreciation day which means 25% off new games and 35% off used titles, and since this is a three check month that means I have a little bit of expendable cash to blow on some games, so triple huzzah!

-Speaking of blowing cash I sure did on Black Friday. Chris crashed at my place day on Thanksgiving night so we can get an early start and pick up Joey in time to catch all the sales. Best Buy opened at 5am, we got there at 4:45 last year and then we were lined up on back edge of the store wall, this year even 15 minutes earlier we ended up lined up beyond the edge of the back store wall and halfway behind the store's parking lot! Chris got a nice 22" HD monitor which also can be used for gaming. I saw Gears of War in action on it, and it looks freaking amazing! At Best Buy I blew $80 $30 of which on a 2gb SD memory card for the Wii (usually runs $100), Jerry McGuire for $3, My Name is Earl season 1 for $20, Condemned for 360 for $19, and Arrested Development season 3 for $10. At Target I got a 19" LCD Trutech HDTV for $150. That is only gonna be used for gaming so now I have entered the HD era! Overall, an awesome Black Friday pickup!

-Thanksgiving was ok. Trying to plan things out with divorced parents who want to avoid each other at all costs proved deadly this year. Last year things managed to went off successfully by managing to celebrate with both parents, not so much this year. Things were on track this way until a few days before Thanksgiving two of my sisters came up with the idea to celebrate over at my other sister's place in Montevideo, MN. It was just too sudden for me and I had to work day before and day after Thanksgiving so I couldn't make it, and I told everyone else I wouldn't mind if they all went cause I would at least celebrate with Dad and some friends. Well, Joe didn't end up going either, and surprisingly my Mom decided to stay in town too. Last year I had my Dad celebrate Thanksgiving dinner at my place with most other family, and he said he wouldn't mind if my Mom would join us. I thought I'd save Mom the trouble of cooking a goliath of a dinner with very little of her immediately family in town, but she didn't want to join us and ended up doing something else instead. I made the best out of the situation though. Scott wasn't celebrating Thanksgiving with anyone so he came over and had dinner with Joe and Dad, and we all played some Wii Sports afterwards. Overall, it ended up being allright, though it felt different not having Thanksgiving dinner with half of my family.

-Speaking of the Wii, my audio blog of it just went live on vgpub. Download it by right click on this link. The first few minutes the audio of my voice sounds a little stringy just so you know when I interviewed a few PS3 line waiters for about 5 minutes that preceded my Wii Line audio blog.

-I watched Survivor Series PPV at Wild Wings this past Sunday. That was about the 10th or 11th PPV I have seen at Wild Wings this year. Had a full house there this time. Steve joined me yet again, as did Jake and Charles and his dad Charley. Co-worker Paul also made it since I owed him a meal due to me losing a bet I made on his Bears. Overall it was a good time, even though the PPV wasn't the best I have seen from the WWE. The DX team owning RKO's team was probably the highlight of the show for me.

-In other tidbits, Chris and I blew through Gears of War within a week on Hardcore mode. Overall I say it took us about 10 hours to beat it, it really should have took us about 8 but we got stuck big time on a couple battles. Very fun, and very entertaining, be on the lookout for the review to be posted on GameFAQs soon, and I'll have a link up for sure to it on my next blog. Other gaming news I have been playing a lot of Smackdown vs RAW 2007 on 360. Slowly but surely am making progress with my created wrestler through my career. He started off rated 33, I figure I am about halfway through the career now, am World Champ and now rated a 70. Other games I have been playing a lot lately have been Wii Sports and Tony Hawk's Project 8.

-I have been watching a lot of new WWE DVDs recently. I can't remember if I wrote about all of theme here before or not, so I will give mini-reviews of the last three I have seen: The Brian Pillman DVD I enjoyed thoroughly. The documentary is very informative, and although I haven't watched any of the extra matches, the listing looks to be very good.

Piper's DVD is ok. Having a disc with just Piper's Pits on it is awesome though as it was one of my favorite interview segments growing up. The main documentary is ok, but considering Piper's long career it seems to skip lots of years at random of his career and Piper himself gives very half-hearted answers as to why he left the business at various points which left me raising my eyebrow from time to time.

I most recently watched the WWE's Spectacular Legacy of the AWA DVD, and that is a very well done package. I remember hearing about it growing up, but when I was getting into wrestling as a kid was when the AWA was just shutting down its doors in the early 90s. The documentary is put together a lot like the Rise and Fall of ECW DVD where it chronicles the ups and downs of Verne Gagne and how his promotion came to be. Very informative, and very entertaining all the through, especially towards the end. The Gagne were great in this, even Vern at 80 years old caught me by surprise. If you're a wrestling historian buff like me then I give this my highest of recommendations.

-Tiz all I got for ya now. Latez!
