I just spent awhile typing this up on a forum, and figured it would have been part of the blog anyways, so here is some analysis of a local MMA show I went to in town. I posted this on a wrestling forum, where the site's admin's constantly promote how wrestling should embrace MMA style fights and alter the wrestling formula to incorporate MMA style. I adress that later on in my post, I would like to hear anyone else who reads this post their thoughts on the matter also.

---------------------

North Dakota has had a couple upstart MMA leagues over the past few years. One of them is DFC (Dakota Fighting Championships - their page) and they had a show last night. I don't follow MMA nowhere near the level as I do for wrestling, as I only catch very random episodes of Ultimate Fighter.

But I do love attending the shows live and being there more than watching it on tv. I had pretty good seats for this local show that I want to guestimate around 4,000 attended. There were 10 fights, and the quality of the show varied greatly. Of the 10 fights, I remember really enjoying two of them which were back and fourth and didn't look like there was a clearcut winner until the very end. Then there were a couple of matches that just dragged where it seemed like the fighters just wanted to stay in that triangle defensive hold I saw in every fight. Then there were a few fights that were just mediocre, and a few that were very quick and decisive and over within a minute or two.

I have no idea who any of these fighters were which is why I am not dropping names, maybe some of the names will stick out for you guys if check out that site's card. Overall, it was a decent show, with a equal amount of bad, mediocre, and awesomeness. This was probably the most MMA action I have seen to date, and coming out of the show I kept remember Wade saying in his daily updates that wrestling needs to incorporate MMA and change with the times. And walking out of this show I have to strongly disagree. I like how Undertaker does it, and I think it should just be his thing unless other former MMA fighters enter wrestling.

Coming out of this show, if I was to think of MMA style fighting, besides some initial punches and kicks, I would instantly consider the style to be nothing but nonstop triangle chokes and guys trying to fight on the defense more and avoid tapping out. It just wouldn't fly seeing that style take over wrestling in my view. I really like how Undertaker has MMA techniques in his style, but I feel it should remain exclusively to him because it makes it special.
