-So WWE had Saturday Night's Main Event yesterday. It was an allright show, twas great watching Orton totally destroy Cena with that RKO on a chair, while the few matches they had were ok, but nothing really all that good. Austing cut a damn good promo on McMahon on Coach concerning if he really is the illegimate child for Vince McMahon. Brought back great memories when Austin was on top in the late 90s.
In actuality, I only tuned in to see the awesome spectacle that was Matt Hardy vs. Evander Holyfield in a boxing match. Yes a boxing match. I haven't kept up all that much in the boxing scene lately and I thought Evander was retired or something and was going to be a special attraction. At first I thought this was a huge joke and wasn't going to happen since WWE didn't market the hell out of it, I mean c'mon, Holyfield is easily one of the top names of boxing in my generation and if you ask me to name 3 boxers from the past 15 years the first 3 I would name would be Tyson, Holyfield, and Foreman.
But yes it actually happened and I didn't expect a classic like the one at Wrestlemania XV between Butterbean and Bart Gunn, but it was still hilarious to watch. I had no idea if this was legitmate or not, the finish obviously was, but I'll assume the boxing wasn't because c'mon Matt Hardy never even boxed before and it turned out Evander isn't retired and is actually set to fight for the heavyweight championship this October. This just happened so sudden with not all that much hype for it just seemed to good to see Holyfield actually boxing in a WWE ring.
As far as the match went, yeah Holyfield totally dominated Hardy. Ref shoulda stopped the fight halfway into the first round as you could tell Hardy look scarred to hell and back and wasn't even landing anything but air, and Holyfield didn't even break a sweat as it looked like he was only giving it about 10%. Of course, Holyfield's "trainer" MVP kept bossing him around throughout the fight and it was hilarious to see MVP get a straight up uppercut to send him to the mat!
-X-Play had their yearly G-Phoria (Game of the year) awards. Remember when G4 really marketed the hell out of this and tried to make it a really big deal? I think Spike surpassed them in that aspect with their VGAs and their huge budget (turns out the awards actually draw huge ratings too!). For a gamers channel (though without a whole lot of gaming shows nowadays) it seems appropriate the awards run on their flagship gaming show. Anyways I caught up on all the G-Phoria awards and here are my comments on them.
Best RPG - Nominees: Okami, Zelda: Twighlight Princess (this is an RPG?), Pokemon Diamond & Pearl, Rogue Galaxy, Final Fantasy XII. Winner - Zelda: Twighlight Princess with 53% fan votes. I never really considered Zelda an RPG. More of an epic adventure/action game. But hey, I guess they had to rank it somewhere.
Best Handheld game - Nominees: Hotel Dusk Room 215, Loco Roco, Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin, Pokemon Diamond & Pearl, Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters. Winner: Pokemon. Yay....or something. Never got too much into that.
Best Multiplayer Game - Gears of War, Wii Sports, WoW: Burning Crusade (shouldn't MMOs get their own award?), Battlestations Midway (I know my friend loves playing this online), Rainbow Six Vegas (I had some fun actually with this online when I owned it). Gears of War with 42% of vote. Wow I'd think Vegas woulda gave it a little more of a run, I woulda voted for that but I never got a chance to play Gear's Annex mode which has the respawning multiplayer I craved so long for.
Best Sports Game - Nominees: Madden 08 (360/PS3 versions), Fight Night Round 3, Rockstar Table Tennis, Wii Sports, Smackdown vs. RAW 2007. Winner: Wii Sports with 48&% of vote. Aw man.....why!?!? I only play that when I have family or friends' girlfriends over, I mean sure its fun, but as a die-hard sports game I always come back too? I don't think so.
Best Action Game - Nominees: Crackdown, Gears of War, God of War II, Rainbow Six Vegas, Resistance. Winner: Gears of War with 47% of vote.
Best System: Nominees - DS, PSP, Xbox 360, Wii, PS3, PC, N-Gage(jussst kidding on that one). Winner: Xbox 360 with 49% of the votes. Do all the winners haver around this margin of victory?
Most original game: Nominees - Dead Rising, Okami, Viva Pinata, Elite Beat Agents, Elebits (nooooooo). Winner: Dead Rising with 41% of votes.
Best Graphics: Nominees - Forza 2, Gears of War, Odin Sphere, Fight Night Round 3, Okami. Winner: Gears with 66%....now there's a blowout.
Can't really disagree with them there, though Okami should go down as one of the most artistic looking games ever, right there with Wind Waker.
Best Strategy Game: Nominees - Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars, Company of Heroes, Warhammer 40k: Dark Crusade, Medieval 2: Total War, Galactic Civilizations 2. Winner: C&C3 with 40% of the vote. Never really played a whole lot of these except C&C3 and a lil bit of Company of Heroes. Always wanted to give Galactic Civ a shot though, I got some unique history with the first game.
