-Hey hey everybody! Another week of Christmas Break down, another week of dreading the start of yet another semester. I did remember to order my books online a couple days ago, so I hopefully should have em in time for the start of the semester on 1/14.
-So my last set of days off went by allright, I altered my days off so I could get New Years Eve off this year, as a consequence though I am now in the middle of working 7 straight days. Anywho, New Years Eve, went by pretty awesome. My sisters wanted me go out with them, so I started that night off by going to Gily's, which was having an open bar special from 6-9. They were only giving out three free tokens during that time to use for the bar special, but I guess one of my sisters knew one of the bouncers who hooked me up with another three tokens. So I had those six drinks, and then I ran into an old high school friend I haven't seen since graduation, Ian, and he bought me a shot, and then my sis got me some other random drink too.
So I had 8 drinks in the two hours I was there, but I'm guessing they were watering down their drinks a bit that night because I only had a little bit of a buzz when heading over to Bucs next, I was only there for about an hour and then had to go to meet Jason & Rachel at Big Daddy's where they had karaoke! It was a blast hanging out with Jason & Rachel and their crew because I only get a chance to see them about twice a year, usually once to tube each summer and the other time to drink away our sorrows. I only got to sing one song, "Lean on Me" and it was the least nervous I was ever singing Karaoke because at that point I had a decent amount of drinks in me, not mind-boggling smashed mind you (been a looong time since I did that), and to my shock people said I actually did an allright job on the mic. I had another song in the karaoke Q, but I the bar closed right when it was my turn to go up. All in all though, it was an awesome new year, and made up for the fact of having to work through last years.
-Rest of my 3 day break wasn't all that bad. I spent one day hanging out with Chris and Scott and we mostly spent that time making a lot of progress in band world tour mode of Rock Band. The last day I made the trek to Fargo to hang out with Matt & Danielle for the first time in a few months. We watched a couple flicks....Shoot 'em Up, which unadulterated, mindless mayhem, and it was freaking amazing all the way through. One of best action movies I have seen in a while, and it should make carrot growers across the world proud! Then we watched War, which was allright, but prolly the wrong thing to watch after Shoot-em-Up, but it did have some decent action and a surprisingly good twist. Matt finally got a 360 so after the flicks, we played some Scene It, and started up Marvel Ultimate Alliance, beating the first boss and now in Stark Towers. I've been wanting to plow through that for awhile now, and am glad I am finally making some decent progress in it. The 360 version also has some cool exclusive characters like Moon Knight and Hulk which were a lot of fun to wreak destruction with.
-Speaking of progressing through games, I have been plucking away at a few lately, so here is a rundown of what I have been playing since my last update. I'm rotating between Mass Effect and Eternal Sonata, both I have about 6-7 hours in so far. Really digging both, I'm in the middle of the fort in Eternal Sonata, and just became a Spectre in Mass Effect. I finally finished season one in Madden NFL 08, the Niners finished much better in my franchise than they did in the actual season with a win-loss record of 10-6, and are in the playoffs! I got MX vs ATV Untamed from Gamefly, and put some time into that too, it was allright, definitely no Motorstorm, I wasn't a fan of the dirt bike racing, but the Quad racing was a bit better for me, and I really dug the Opencross/dune buggy racing a lot more. Good rental though, nothing more.
I have also finally been putting in some quality time with Call of Duty 4! I owned the game for awhile now, and other than about an hour in multiplayer, I never touched the campaign until a few hours ago, and am about 4 hours and just completed the flashback sniper mission, which was one hell of a thrill. The campaign has had a lot of awesome moments so far, I don't wanna give too much away, but I am now glad I picked this up, now I just gotta dive deeper into the online multiplayer which I hear blows Halo 3's away, which by the way I still throw down with coworkers in about once a week.
Finally, I threw in Burnout Revenge for the first time in many months, just to refresh myself with the series before Paradise comes out in a few weeks and made some more progress in my career, and played online with a friend, and was surprised at how active the online community is still for a non Clancy/Halo game after 2 years of release.
-In TV DVD progress, I am on the final disc of season 6 of Seinfeld. Another awesome season, as some of my fave episodes from it thusfar are "The Race" and "The Scofflaw." Been a while since I threw a Seinfeld DVD in before I started season 6, and I still need to start seasons 6 and 7 and pick up season 8. I have no idea of which of the many other TV DVD sets I should start next, I was thinking Wrestling Society X since it is short, but on the other hand I've been debating about 24 season 2 since I am about 5 or 6 episodes in already, and just neglected it ever since for over a year now.
-Finally, I posted this in another friend's blog, but here is my final list of games I have completed in 2007. Now you may consider it a final tally of either 17 or 20, if you count the Guitar Hero games or not. But this was a definite step up from the 4 or 5 I completed in 2006.
#1 - Saints Row (360) - I beat this one in January after many attempts at missions that pissed me off numerous times. I still got about half the side missions to do, but this game was still a blast as it had a really good story with awesome cutscenes. Tiz a great homage to San Andreas.
#2 - Cars (360) - I had to review this, and I am counting since it had a story mode that took several hours to beat. Was actually kind of fun in the process since it used all the movie's characters to voice the lines. Not all that challenging
#3 - Bullet Witch (360) - The game wasn't that long, took about 9 or 10 hours to beat, and the last boss which took over an hour to beat was an adrenaline rush and a half.
#4 - Crackdown (360) - This game was a blast because of online co-op. Breezed right through this game in about 13-15 hours. If it wasn't for co-op, I probably would have put the game down about halfway through because of its repetitiveness and lack of narrative, but co-op play makes those flaws omissable. co-op with chris
#5 - Just Cause (360) - awesome, over the top action alternative to GTA/Saints Row. Definitely check this out if you run across it in the bargain bin.
#6 - Civil War (360) This game can be completed in under four hours. Seriously. All there is to it is recreating past battles from Civil War and fighting as both South and North. There is no real story as little recaps from the History Channel set up each battle. The gameplay feels like a very dumb downed Call of Duty engine, but with Civil War weaponry. Civil War is so basic and isn't terribly fun to play, but since the atmosphere is so different and fresh than the same 'ol World War II game it is certainly a nice change of pace.
#7 - Metal Slug Anthology (Wii/PS2) - Already played through most of this on the Wii, but my friend recently got the PS2 version and we played through all 7 games with each one taking about 45 minutes each to complete. This was just a blast to play through all these gems again. co-op with matt and chris
#8 - TMNT: Hyperstone Heist (Gen) - Friend just got this and we decided to play through it the other day. Man is it short, only five stages which took just an hour to beat overall, but it was a lot of fun while it lasted. This is a lot better than TMNT2: The Arcade Game (NES, Live Arcade), with a bit more gameplay variety and more fun stages to experience. I haven't played Manhatten Project or Turtles in Time Yet, but between this and the first two NES games this one easily outclasses them. co-op w/matt
#9 - Spiderman: Separation Anxiety (SNES) - A two player arcade brawler/beat-em-up where you get to play as Spidey and Venom. If I recall right this came out towards the end of the SNES life cycle and it shows as this is a very polished game with some very nicely detailed and animated characters. This one was short too and we beat it within an hour and half, but it was more fun co-op action from the good old days of gaming. co-op w/matt
#10 - Syberia (Xbox)
#11 - Punisher (Genesis) - the game froze on Matt and I at the beginning of the last stage. So we decided to give it another go and we made it through and beat the final boss (Kingpin) on Normal difficulty....but we don't really get a true endind. There is a frame of the Punisher holding a gun, and he fires it at you saying "Now fight like the Punisher and try Hard mode." GIVE ME A BREAK! co-op w/matt
#12 - Shield(PS2)
#13 Syberia II(Xbox)
#14 Halo 3 (360) - co-op with scott
#15 Stranglehold (360)
#16 Simpsons Game(360)
#17 Kane & Lynch (360) - co-op with Mike
#18-20? Guitar Hero Rock the 80s Encore(PS2), Guitar Hero 2(360), Guitar Hero 3(360)
Tiz all I got for now, latez!
