-Hey yo! Past week has been pretty fair, right now I am typing this just a few hours before my very first class of the new semester. This near 4 week Christmas break almost seemed like a mini-summer break. I made the most of it and had a pretty grand month all in all.
-I saw a lot four flicks since my last update too, so that means it is the return on mini-movie review mania!
Death Sentence - What has Kevin Bacon been doing the past several years, this is the only thing I can think of him doing since Stir of Echoes. Anywho, this is the flick about where a random gang beatdown leave's Bacon's son for dead and Bacon decides to seek vengeance on the gang member, and then the gang declares a death sentence on Bacon's family. I liked this a lot more than I originally thought I would because of how believable it was. When Bacon decides to go all Terminator against the gang they show him trying to learn the weapons and fumbling around with the weapons when going all guns a blazing, and the way he evades death just seems totally possible and not hollywood-ized. The cinematography is also superb, and gives the film a dark, gritty feeling while still not going too far in that direction. Highly recommended. 8.5/10
Sunshine - This is a sci-fi epic I didn't even hear about until it got mentioned as the pick of the week on the DVD Weekly Podcast. This is almost like Armageddon/Deep Impact, but on the sun instead of an asteroid. This film had a lot of stuff to keep track of, so much that I got a little lost in the sheer scope of things, my friend Matt didn't though as he was grasping things far better than I was and was enjoying it a lot more to boot. I liked it, but with all the craziness and little things to keep track of it got to be a little much, still cool crazy space action though. 7.5/10
Juno - Nearly 2 years after Arrested Development went off the air, it was so awesome to see Michael Cera and Jasone Bateman sharing the same work again....except I don't think there was a single scene where both are on screen simultaneously. This is pretty much Knocked Up, but less vulgar and in a high school setting. I really liked it, dunno right now if I'd say I liked it as much as Knocked Up, gotta let some perspective weigh in, but other than the film going a lil bit off the deep end in modern slang and leet speak jargon, Juno was indeed awesome and consisted of tons of laughs. 8.5/10
Cashback - A coworker was talking this one up pretty good and borrowed me his copy of this indy flick where after a nasty break up, the ex boyfriend takes an overnight job at the supermarket to manage his sleep deprivation......and can somehow manage to make time freeze for some random reason. This was a good flick, but also a bit depressing than I originally thought it was going to be, though it did have plenty of comic relief in the form of the sex-crazed best friend, the crazy supervisor, and the misfit stockers. It ended up being pretty good for one of those out there/break-up flicks. 8/10
-So I'm not even a half a month into the new year and I already beat my first two games of the year. #1: Call of Duty 4 (360) - awesome campaign from beginning to end filled with a ton of mesmerizing moments. I ended up beating it in about 6 hours on Normal difficulty, but it was a blast from beginning to end. #2: History Channel: Battle for the Pacific (360) this is just as mediocre as 2006's History Channel game, Civil War, at least the graphics got a nice little boost, but when it only takes 3 hours for me to plow through a campaign on Hard, and when the achievements focus on multiplayer and no one is to be found at all on multiplayer, it left me a little tiffed.
Speaking of achievements, turns out Pacific's "Beat the game on Hard" achievement is bugged and can only be achieved by beating the campaign on Hard in one straight sitting, I found that out on various achievement sites after wondering where the hell my achievement was. I wouldn't have gotten it anyways if I did do a straight session because the game froze on me on the second to last mission which would have resulted in me resetting the game and breaking the marathon. Booooo.
-In other gamingness, I finished Medium difficulty on drums for Rock Band, well I got the achievement for it anyways, then I plowed through all the bonus tour on Medium on drums and am working now on my downloaded songs. Next I think I'll try beating Vocals. I also put a little more time into Mass Effect, and man am I taking my sweet time in that game, I just traveled outside of the Citadel for the first time, and I must have talked to everyone and did most of the side quests up until that point becuse the timer is at 8 hours so far. Regardless, I am still enjoying that game a ton. I also played a few other old XBLA titles, like Lumines Live and Time Pilot, earning new achievements in both games for the first time in over a year.
-So I guess you can say I met a girl I've been starting to hang out with a bit this past week. Been quite a long time since I posted something like that in here. Matt and Danielle have been trying to get us to get together. After messaging each other for a few weeks we finally got around to meeting for coffee about a week ago, and last Friday we went and saw Juno. I have no idea where thing are heading as I'm not getting ahead of myself and am just taking them one step at a time, but so far I dig her and she has an awesome personality, so we'll see what happens.
......how 'bout dem Cowboys :( Sorry TO.
-Tiz all for now, latez!
