-Hello everybody. I am psyched right now because the latest semester for class is nearly done with just a few weeks left. Progressing pretty good so far, and I want to give props to Rockstar for wisely timing the release of GTA IV right near the beginning of summer break! I hope THQ doesn't plan on releasing the Saints Row sequel at the very beginning of the school year like they did two years ago. Come to think of it, last year was the year for a bunch of standout FPSs it seems, and this year, besides another solid round of potentially awesome FPSs like Killzone 2, Resistance 2, Haze, and more....I am more aniticipating the sandbox games this year with GTAIV, Saints Row 2, and Just Cause 2.
-Recently, Lost: Via Domus on 360 became game #5 completed this year so far! I talked about it in length on my latest podcast (download here) and will have a detailed text review up soon. For my quick thoughts, as a fan of the show, the fan service certainly helped cloak the shallowness and frustrating puzzles this adventure game had to offer. It didn't really explain or show off anything new from the backstory that avid Lost fans already know, other that a couple miniscule exceptions. I did like the ending though, as it actually plays in a lot with what happened in the recent season four episodes. I just hope they have this "Elliot" photographer that is controlled throughout the game make some kind of appearence on the show, I don't care if it's a major role or even just a brief cameo, just as a way of the producers of throwing a bone for the people who took the time and money to play this game. I don't want to give too much away for the story for those who still plan on playing it, but if you comment with your email address, I'll shoot you a line giving you the highlights of the story.
-Speaking of talking about Lost on my latest podcast, the latest episode finally saw the debut our new mics and mixer console. I have already received some feedback about the noticeably better quality of the audio, so if the previous not-so-stellar audio turned you off from listening, please give my show another chance and take a listen. The latest show also features a review for Army of Two, revisiting Ridge Racer 6 on Xbox 360, my experience getting a PS3, and a discussion on the ratings of MMOs.
-So we finally started started up our MLB 08 league on PS3. It's a twelve team league, with an eleven week season where we face a new team each week in a three game series, for a total of 33 regular season games, then playoffs. I played my first game of the season, with my Phillies, taking on Glenn's Brewers, and he handidly conquered me 3-0. I'm going to try my best to maintain this schedule, luckilly it's starting right when school is about to end, so that will help immensely!
-Last weekend was pretty awesome. On Saturday I met up with Steve and some of his friends to go to a local night club and check out a Metallica tribute band called "Battery." Another band was there opening up for them too called "7K." 7K played for an hour, and were ok, they performed mostly cover songs and a few original pieces that I weren't too high on, but they did their job to warm up the crowd. Battery definitely had the sound and feel of Metallica. Since they were performing in a little club with no more than 200-250 people there I was able rock up directly in front of the band with literally two feet inbetween me and band. Weren't that many people rocking out in front of the band on the mini pit area/dance floor as mostly everyone resided at their tables, but about a dozen of us rocked out up with the band the entire time. Damn good time, and while a tribute/cover band is never as good as the real thing, but for $5 these guys put on one helluva show, and sound damn near idential to Metallica which led for an all around thrashing time. Props to Battery for playing over three hours straight, and what seemed like at least 20 Metallica songs (along with a cover of Pantera's "Cemetery Gates"). To top it all off, I walked away with a total of three drumsticks from both bands, which will definitely take the place of my old sticks I used for Rock Band.
-Sunday was a more tamer day, though I still made something out of it. My mom has been always wanting my siblings and I to learn how to play the card game Whisk with her, kind of similar to how my dad finally got me to play Pinochle with him last year. Anyways, Joey, Jane and I met up and we kind of made her day by taking the time to play with her. We nearly didn't after trying to comprehend the rules early on, I'm better at learning on the fly while playing, similar to how I play games, but my mom tried to overwhelm us with all the rules before even playing which made it extremely difficult to get our initial hand going. Eventually, I somewhat grasped the rules and we managed to get one game in within three hours.
-Later that night I met up with my coworkers Mike and Ben and we had a movie marathon. First we watched Alien vs. Predator: Requim. I'm usually not all gung ho for horror flicks since I'm a wimp, but a good 'old fashion slasher flick like this where they have no time to build suspense in order to kill off more people I am all for. Good mindless fun, and this one was far better than the last AVP, I think the killcount got well over a 100 in Requim, lots of awesome mindless brutality! Check it out! Next we watched.......Next, the Nicholas Cage flick where he can see slightly into the future. That one must have slipped my radar as I don't even recall seeing any previews for that before, but it was pretty good. Nicholas Cage doesn't like how an event will unfold, jump back two minutes and redo it, hilarity ensues on his many pickup attempts. Finally, we watched There Will Be Blood, that one about the early days of the oil industry. On the back it said the film won best Oscar for Cinematography, which I 100% agree with as it seems like the flick was shot with today's technology, but at the turn of the 20th century. Film was pretty good too, but it was kind of all over the place and lost me at a few points, and it was incredibly long at three hours too. There should be a rule for movie marathons to never watch a film that is longer than two hours. It just kind of broke up the pace. After Next, I thought for sure we would get another two or three flicks in, but after that long of a flick I was done.
-That about wraps it for another insanely long entry. Later!
