-Hey hey! It has been quite a busy week for me. Plenty of crazy happenings lately, among them discovering I'm getting a new supervisor in a couple weeks, which sucks because our current supervisor has been simply awesome to work for during the past three years.
-So last weekend I made my first trip to the casino in nearly a year with Matt & Danielle. After three straight times of coming out ahead from the casino, it finally managed to get its revenge and rob me of my $35. Perhaps my bad luck occurred because we traversed to a brand new casino, the Dakota Magic, which is off I-29 on the North/South Dakota border. At least it was a convenient drive, Matt got some new music we checked out on the way down. New Offspring sounds pretty good, got a feeling I'll probably end up picking it up down the line. New Weezer is a big departure from their previous sound (except for Pork & Beans, which is very similar to their awesome Blue material).
-So a couple flicks over a rare 4 day weekend. Saw Crank again, but on BluRay. I don't know, but I guess upconverted DVDs look pretty damn good on my PS3 that I'm not noticing that huge of a gap in quality to BluRay. Don't get me wrong, it's still a great picture, perhaps I need something bigger than my 37" tv to get the very best out of it. Crank is still awesome, and there are some noteworthy extras on the disc too. I had no idea they pulled that helicopter stunt off legitimately, that high in the air. Props to them for making that happen.
I also saw 88 Minutes at the second-run theater in town. I was very skeptical going in because I wanted to get out and see a movie that night, so I saw the trailers for all that was playing at the cheap-plex, and 88 Minutes was the only one that stuck out. Ended up being a good decision. 88 Minutes is one of those detective/thrillers that kept me guessing at all the outcomes throughout. A worthy "whodunnit" flick. Buzz among other movie-goers coming out of the film seemed pretty high too.
-On Wendesday I completed game #8 of the year, Resistance: Fall of Man for PS3!- Chris and I finally finished the co-op campaign. Great time, and a surprisingly lengthy FPS at around 15 hours. Really dug the alternate history story for this game, but damn did Chris and I have a tough time with this game on Easy difficulty. I wasn't expecting to romp right through the game, but Resistance reminded me of Army of Two where the Easy difficulty actually seemed more like a Normal level difficulty, which is just fine because that is right around the perfect level of challenge for me. Only thing I came out wanting was for some more frequent checkpoints. There were a few levels I nearly pulled my hair out because we kept dying a ways after our last checkpoint. Resistance is definitely a game worth checking out, I'd buy it now for the amazing campaign and what I hear is some kickass multiplayer, but it's still somehow going for $60, and with Resistance 2 creeping up a few months from now, I may as well hold off for that.
-I made a lot of progress in GTA IV since my last update. About 58% complete, and 35 hours in so far. Probably could have been higher, but I tripped up on a couple missions that took me several nervewracking retrys to beat. If I were reviewing this, one point would have been docked off for the fact of no mid-mission checkpoints alone. Their absence is unexcusable.
-I don't know how many people reading this frequent gametrailers.com, I know I shilled them for their superb retrospectives before, but recently I have been watching a ton of Screw Attack off of Game Trailers. I have mostly been viewing the infamous, Angry Video Game Nerd who loves to bash damn near everything....save for TMNT, and the Video Game Vault features, which are quick 2-3 minute flashbacks of mostly 8 and 16-bit games. I linked one to a friend, who told me he didn't care for the video because he didn't need another person to tell him a game he already loves is great. I suppose I see where he is coming from, but I somehow find it fascinating to get the perspectives of other gamers on the game I enjoy/loathe.
-I went a little overboard again getting used games online. One online retailer I frequent, goatstore.com had a 25% off everything sale last week, which I used to build up my 3DO library. I ended up getting these 3DO Games madness: FIFA Soccer, Hell (this one was listed as $0 so I'm assuming it sucks), Burning Soldier, Daedalus Encounter, Gex, Stellar 7: Draxxon's Revenge, Real Pinball. Those 7 totaled up to $30, which isn't terribly bad I feel. On that same sale I additionally picked up one other non-3DO game, GTA 2 for Dreamcast. I have been digging GTA IV so much lately that I want to hit up the older entries in the series once I'm done with IV.
-I picked up a rather rare DS game over the weekend too, it's only available off the publisher's web site (not even Amazon carries it), agetec.com. The game is LOL, and it is a multiplayer only game(single card only) that relies on your creativity. Essentially one player asks whatever question they want with the stylus, then the other players write whatever they want, and each player votes for the best answer. That's it. The back of the box calls you out too by saying "If you think this game is boring, then you're boring!" I brought it over to play with a couple friends a few days ago, and acutally had a decent time with it, though I think next LOL will be far superior played when plastered.
-After a solid month of behind-the-scenes madness, the new site and RSS feed for the podcast is up. ontappodcast.com is the new home of the show, which is where you can go to get access to our entire archive, and subscribe to our new RSS and iTunes feeds, which are finally in numerical order! Chris and I had a blast recording our last episode, which is a retrospective on the Sega CD. Unfortunately, both of Chris's Sega CDs weren't working so we couldn't refresh our memories on any Sega CD games before the show, and went into the show off Chris's memories alone. Next episode is going to be all about the Sega Saturn, and we made sure to test Chris's Saturn first going in, and we played each of his 8 games for nearly a half hour to an hour each. Can't wait to record it, in the upcoming weeks look for our summer of console flashbacks to continue with retrospectives on the TurboGrafx, 3DO and more!
-That's all for now, later!
