-Hello one and all, time for the monthly update I guess. Laptop fucked up again second time in three months, whoooo! There were still a couple lingering viruses on there slowly eating away at it, so now it is off for it to get repaired again, whoooo!
-Helped Matt & Danielle move for the third year straight! They are back in Grand Forks again so that means no more hour treks to Fargo I have been doing for the past two years! I think we got this moving thing down pretty good, as we were all done with the process in about 5 to 6 six hours. This is my sixth move driving a Uhaul and thankfully have yet to wreck into anything driving that beast.
-Steve gave me a heads up that Bucs has been doing Karaoke contests every Tuesday for the summer, I made it out to two of them in recent weeks, but failed at winning a prize. Joey came out and got on stage and got second place for his magical freestylings of Beastie Boys' "Funky Monkey." Unique thing about this karaoke contest was everyone would sing two songs, the participant would pick a song and the DJ would. Songs I picked over my two attempts were Quiet Riot's "Metal Health" and Kenny Wayne Shepard's "Blue on Black." DJ picked "Holy Diver" and "Santa Monica" for me. Ended up rocking karaoke a good three times within three weeks then including me aforementioned attempts in my previous blog in Montevideo.
-I have been to Paradiso's a crazy amount lately. Too many birthday's out of nowhere. First there was Matt's the same day he moved, then the next day after was my co-worker Mike's bday. Then a few day later it was Lyzz's bday and the whole crew went out to Paradiso's again, whoo! How many more times to come is beyond me!
-Latest movie update - Suburban Commando - Finally witnessed this Hulk Hogan classic with Matt a few days ago. According to Hogan's autobiography this was where he "discovered" Mark Calloway, aka The Undertaker and recommended him for employment in WWE. This movie is awful....awfully awesome that is! If you're looking for a good flick to poke fun of throughout MST3K style, then Suburban Commando is highly recommended! 2.5/10 Another one is Kindergarten Ninja, Matt and I only made it about a half hour in, but it stars former 49ers pro Dwight Clark as the lead character, with incredibly low production values that Indy filmmakers could easily surpass!
Run Fatboy, Run - Simon Peg continues to be awesome! Did not have super high expectations going in to this, but I was pleasantly surprised. I would still rank Hot Fuzz as my favorite Peg film though. 8/10
This is Spinal Tap - Finally saw this one for the first time a few days ago. I was always aware of its existence but never really looked into it. Been in my Netflix Q for awhile, but Matt picked up the BluRay and we took it in its awesome grainy HD glory! Did not realize they were doing mock-u-mentaries this long ago, and this well to boot! Highlights for me were the running gag on the drummer always dying and the gig where the Spinal Tap could not find their way to the stage. 9/10
Rat Race - Also rewatched a couple films recently. Watched Rat Race again with my mom for her birthday. My mom has a great tradition of buying me a random DVD out of the $5 bin at Wal-Mart, and she has consistently managed to find good flicks for me. Saw it originally several years back, and figured it would be a fun flick to watch with the family, and while not an all-time classic, it still held up and the family got a enough chuckles throughout. Wished they would have included that deleted scene where DDP beats the tar out of Cuba's character in the film though. 7/10
Watchmen: Director's Cut - Still loved this as much as I did coming out of the theater, just got to keep telling myself all the characters have superpowers and are not vigilantes as I discovered a few weeks after initially seeing the film. The director's cut did not seem to add as much as advertised aside from a couple of scenes that puts more of a focus on one of the older Minutemen vigilantes. The BluRay looks fantastic though, just make sure to put the time because with the new footage it clocks in at over three hours! 9/10
-Last Monday's RAW was horrible, how dare they ban Miz from RAW!!! The freshest thing to happen to RAW's main event scene in forever, and instead he gets buried by Cena and now we are back to being treated to the same three guys in the main event scene on RAW for another couple years. Well at least HBK comes back soon, but he's rumored to retire at WM26 so it'll be short lived, and Batista will probably come back again but like Triple H said he is always getting hurt. I am digging the guest host on RAW each week however. Seth Green, Shaq and Jeremy Pivven were all really entertaining as guest GMs and meshed well into the WWE Universe. Anyone see the Zach Ryder/Christian match from ECW last week? The two turned it up and delivered a standout main event, ditto with John Morrison and Jeff Hardy on the latest Friday Night Smackdown! The two had an amazing PPV quality match, going to suck with Hardy taking some time off with him finally have a great top tier run on Smackdown past several months.
Lastly in wrestling happenings I finally finished the Kurt Angle TNA DVD. Pretty damn good, I like how they intersperse a solid 10-15 minutes of interviews and documentary style footage, and then go to a match. Never get burnt out on either, except that there was not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4, I kid you not but 5 Samoa Joe matches!!! All of them were pretty damn good, don't get me wrong, but you think they could have toned it down a notch. Also on there were great matches with Jay Lethal and Yugi Nagata from last year's Global Impact. Highly recommended, WWE desperately needs to make a Kurt Angle DVD. I highly suspect Kurt to go back to WWE after his TNA contract expires at the end of this year, if you have not heard, Kurt and his wife Karen (who was a regular TNA on air character for awhile) recently divorced, and news recently broke that Karen and her kids have been staying with TNA founder Jeff Jarrett (who lost his wife to cancer a couple years ago). Drama!!!!
-I am finally approaching the end of Kevin Smith's compendium of blogs, "My Boring-ass Life." I took a break from it for a few months, because while entertaining it got extremely repetitive. However now the book has really picked it up. I am on part 7 of the 9 part entry entitled "Me and My Shadow" where Kevin documents Jason Mewes' lifelong battle with drugs. Very fascinating read on how Kevin keeps bailing out Jason when he's on the verge of death so many times.
-My sister sold me her 360 along with a lot of games and accessories for $200. Figure since my warranty expired earlier this year, and the crazy rate of red ringed 360s it could not hurt to have a back up. Also would make it optimal for gaming for system link marathons for the time being. Got 2 controllers, a 60gb hard drive, a 256 memory card, a rapid charger station with 2 batteries, and 5 games with it (Tiger Woods 08, NBA 2k9, CoD4 Game of the Year, Tetris Evolution and Sega Superstar Tennis).
-For games I have been playing lately, I have been putting a lot of time into Uncharted this past month. A little under 10 hours in and 87% through thus far. Really digging it so far, but at times the platforming can be a little overkill for my lack of skillz0rz. Really great narrative too since I am a sucker of these treasure hunt/National Treasure-esque stories. Definitely am picking up the sequel. Joey and Scott came over yesterday and we threw in Perfect Dark Zero for the first time in 3 years to see how it held up, and yeah it just is not that good anymore. Parts of it were still fun but it just seems too slow compared to the latest FPSs on the market. After from PD0, we played a smidgin' of Halo 3, and proceeded to tear it up in Rock Band for a few hours.
Been doing a lot of gaming with coworkers Dave and Adam on recent days off. Dave lives only a few houses down the street so it is common to stumble over and enjoy a few brews and game it up. Had quite a few last week and got really drunk for the first time about four years, but while I drunk I managed to beat another coworker Tony button mashing away in Guilty Gear X2#Reload on Xbox. We also played a ton of Call of Duty World at War split screen. That seems to be the hit with a lot of my coworkers lately, they crave Nazi Zombies mode, and I finally tried it out recently and that mode is freaking awesome, puts a whole new layer on top of the Horde mode I love so much in Gears 2. Speaking of Gears 2 I have been playing a lot of that, especially since the new All Fronts/Dark Corners collection came out. I never bought any of the new map packs, but All Fronts bundled them all together along with the new single player content for just $20! With Epic having double XP all week on the new maps I kept playing in hopes to get closer for that online level 25 achievement.
Picking up Fallout 3 a bit again since my last update. Hit level 9 and got a kickass perk, "Size Matters" that raised my Big Guns skill 15 points! I now have a Big Guns rating of 76, which means I have been having no problems whatsoever mowing down Super Mutants with my flamethrower! In my final bit of gaming happenings, I was up night with many coworkers (Dave, Adam, Mike and their buddies) throwing down in Rock Band 2, World at War, and best of all the new crazy ass fighting game, Blaze Blue. I thought games like Guilty Gear and MvC2 were crazy, Blaze Blue puts them all to shame with insane Power Rangers-style music playing whenever characters pull off super moves and all other maniacal types of shenanigans. Speaking of Marvel vs Capcom 2, it is now on PSN and XBLA, and its online play works flawlessly. I played a ton of it online recently, and you should too! One of the few reasons I keep my Dreamcast hooked up, and playing online I have already discovered many new techniques I never witnessed before. If you missed out on the goodness back on Dreamcast/PS2/Xbox than please at least download the trial because you are missing out!!
-Ok, I'm finally done, think I am going to see Hangover again tomorrow. Peace!
-Helped Matt & Danielle move for the third year straight! They are back in Grand Forks again so that means no more hour treks to Fargo I have been doing for the past two years!
