-Hey Yo! I will start off this blog with a congradulations to Chris & Lyzz for them recently getting married. They had one of the best wedding cakes I have had the priveledge of witnessing, it was themed after halo and had the Blood Gulch map theme painted over it and had a Warthog figurine on top. Priceless!
-Speaking of Chris & Lyzz, the three of us recorded the latest On Tap yesterday, but it will be a short while before everyone can hear it because we are experiencing server issues at the moment. We pretty much were told 12 hours in advance that our server that hosted ontappodcast.com was going to be taken down and that we needed to back up all our files ASAP. Managed to back them up no problem, but this happened about two days into Chris & Lyzz's honeymoon, and Chris handles all the server/behind-the-scenes site maintenance. We are in the midst of deciding on a new server host, so expect new episodes soon (I'll have an immediate announcement on the On Tap Twitter Feed so check that too for the latest updates. The wait will be worth it though because our latest show is a doozy as it is a retrospective on the Genesis in honor of its 20 year anniversary.
One podcast that will not be coming back however is the excellent Wicked Pissa Podcast. MY BOY BRETT ran that show (who also happened to be a guest on a couple early episodes of On Tap), which was pretty much an audio blog of what he's been playing and his thoughts on the current rumblings in gaming for nearly the past four years. He cranked out a lot of fantastic shows over the years and had a more personal feel to his podcasts compared to a lot more of the overproduced ones I have heard. To top it off he did a majority of the final half of his 167 shows recording out of his H-CIV en route to work in the midst of intense rush hour Boston traffic; now that takes mad talent to podcast and drive simultaneously! He posted his final show a few weeks ago and stated that his archive will only remain active until the end of this month (which is today, doh!), but in case he decides to leave it up for a little while longer, click this link to check out his Libsyn page with his entire archive of shows.
-Breaking news!!! In the midst of updating this blog I discovered that Disney just bought Marvel for $4 Billion dollars!!! THIS IS HORRIBLE!! I imagine Disney did this because they like the cash cow that is Marvel's films and don't give a crap about their comics. Dammit, this means all Marvel films will now be PG rated-watered-down pieces of crap like Fantastic Four and I can only count down the days until Punisher gets cancelled so Disney can uphold their family image....yay.
-After two years of my ancient Lexmark Z11 printer being on the fritz, I have finally ordered a new printer. Frys had a steal of a deal on this laser jet printer on sale from $120 regularly to just $40! Figure the timing is right since for the last couple years I have been relying on taking advantage of college for all my free printing.
-I have still been rolling through games since my last blog. I have completed games 15-18 of the year since my last update. #15 was Uncharted on PS3, fantastic game, I am going to have to say Uncharted and the first Resistance right now are my two favorite PS3 games. On Tap #103 I delivered an in-depth review, so check that if you want to hear more on that. #16 and 17 belong to TMNT Turtles in Time Reshelled. Reshelled can be knocked out within 45 minutes, just like arcade, so one time Matt beat it with me, and another Joe and Jake did as well. I still want to beat it two more times to unlock the achievement to complete it with all four turtles. Finally, game 18 may be a questionable selection, but it is the deleted scene for Gears of War 2. You can play it through two different ways, guns blazing or via stealth, each way takes about 45 minutes, so combined it took approximately 90 minutes, which was barely enough for me to count it as a selection.
-I uploaded a bunch of new PS3/PC Buzz quizzes a few days back. Highlights include quizzes for Hulk Hogan movies, a new On Tap quiz, and a ton of wrestling quizzes. Click here to go to my Buzz profile and play them on the PC
-Checked out the Rise and Fall of WCW DVD right upon its release. Pretty solid overview of the company, though lacking in many areas, could have used far more time. It is only 100 minutes for a company that has been around several decades, compared to WWE's awesome ECW DVD which features a three hour documentary for a company that only existed 8 years. For more check out my review on Robot Panic Also got around to watching Hardcore Homecoming DVD I bought, oh....a good 2 or 3 years ago. It was the indy version of the ECW One Night Stand reunion show that took a place the day before WWE's show. It was allright and had more of a natural ECW atmosphere since it took place in the old ECW Arena, but it didn't have as much star ECW talent than WWE's had, and its main event barb wire match was simply a disaster.
-Finally finished the Kevin Smith blog book as I hinted as I was approaching the end. Started up and got 10 pages into the first Mass Effect novel, Revelation. It pulls no punches and starts things off with the origin of humanity colonizing into different galaxies in space right off the bat. Made me want to get back into Mass Effect again before the sequel comes out. Hope the rest of the book is as awesome as the opening 10 pages!
-I am going to try and run down a quick bullet list of sorts for what I have been playing lately, so I do not end up rambling for a dozen more paragraphs as I have played a ton since the last blog. So without further ado, here is everything else I have not mentioned above that I have played...
-Burnout Paradise - Almost lost it getting my A license, so many restarts, but damn are those online challenges a blast! Knocked out all the 2player ones with Ryan over Live!
-Shadow Complex - Wow! That is a whole lot of game packed into an XBLA download! Lovin' it so far, completed all Proving Ground challenges a few hours into the main game.
-Phoenix Wright And Justice 4 All - Still playing 15-30 minutes a day before bed, just finished the second case yesterday which I think took me around a good 5 hours all together. I have been served humble pie!
-Guitar Hero Metallica - About 2/3 of the way through guitar career on hard, difficulty is really amping up but I am all for it. Master of Puppets was a rush to get through!
-Marvel vs Capcom 2 - Playing this on both PS3 and 360. Online competition is stiff, but I am learning quite a bit.
-Street Fighter IV - Finally had some serious throwdown in this with Dave recently. Ryu is currently my go to fighter!
-Smackdown vs RAW 2009 - Got my Created Wrestler inducted into hall of game and only need one more achievement until I have a full 1000!
-Saints Row 2 - Still occasionally picking this up and beating a few missions here and there. Game says I am over halfway done.
-Motorstorm 2 - Played a bit of this online with some of the VGevo community, and rightfully got my tail handed to me.
-Madden NFL 10 - Curse you EA for making all the achievements only being possible by beating the CPU at All-Pro difficulty! Got a few so far tho! (Audible into goal line blitz to get the Adrian Peterson one!)
-A ton of demos - Lost Planet 2 = ehhhh its ok, Call of Juarez 2 = probable bargain bin buy, Mini Ninjas = TenchuZ/Dynasty Warriors hybrid that is not my cup of tea, Batman Arkham Asylum = sorry the stealth was a bit much for me, Dirt 2 = sure looked pretty but damn do I suck at rally racing
-Ok, shit, damn what another crazy ass long blog. Thank you again for making it this far, until next time!
